(Skibsøl Style—Dutch Smoked Ship Beer)

Skibsøl, The Smoky Ale of the Seas. This style is a traditional
smoked amber/dark amber beer that Dutch merchant ships would
use within their daily rations in the 18th and 19th centuries. Lower
alcohol provided the sailors with nutrients but didn't inhibit their
work, more hops were added to prevent spoilage. Our version
takes this very traditional style but lowers the hop profile to let
the malt shine. Smokey and fruity on the nose, with a subtle hint
of acidity. Dark amber, clear with some chill-haze. Profile is
deceivingly light despite its appearance. It drinks smokey but has
a lot of complex fruit flavors including plum, apricot, and dates
beneath it. Rich in flavor but light in body, it is more crushable
than one would think.
